The picture of me Jenny and Lynder at Castleward is used quite a lot on FredorDead - however I unearthed THIS rarer picture of Fred with the two beautiers and I thought I would share!!
I've been playing around a bit with a new picture editing thing I've downloaded and I produced this slightly enhanced picture of Lynder and Jenny at Ripon Cathedral England.
Miss Beatrice, the church organist, was in her eighties.
She was admired for her sweetness and kindness to all. One afternoon the pastor came to call on her and she showed him into her quaint sitting room. She invited him to have a seat while she prepared tea.
As he sat facing her old Hammond organ, the young minister noticed a cut-glass bowl sitting on top of it. The bowl was filled with water, and in the water floated, of all things, a condom!
When she returned with tea and scones, they began to chat. The pastor tried to stifle his curiosity about the bowl of water and it's strange floater, but soon it got the better of him and he could no longer resist.
"Miss Beatrice," he said, "I wonder if you would tell me about this?"
pointing to the bowl.
"Oh, yes,"
she replied,
"Isn't it wonderful? I was walking through the park a few months ago and I found this little package on the ground.
The directions said to place it on the organ, keep it wet and that it would prevent the spread of disease.
Monday last week we were invited to a barbeque at Jenny and Chris's house - This is a photo of us doing our thing. Left to right is Andrew who works for the Ulster Orchestra, Lynda (or Lynder as we call her) who is a music teacher in a large school in Belfast, then Freddy who works for a bank, then Susie who also works for a bank, then Richard who prints up wedding invites and questionaires for people at the Northern Whig, and finally Mr Hutton. He works for the government here in Northern Ireland and lives in a gorgeous house right by the sea in Portavogie.
Unfortunately the rain was ridiculous at the barbeque - Chris bravely fought on with his barbeque fluid squirting everywher in a bid to keep the flames high under Richard's umbrella but they gave up and some of the food was done on the "George Formby" instead.
A significant birthday is coming up. Believe it or not on July 26th last year I started this website. It was called a different name back then and a lot has changed.
I had no idea then what it was going to be when I pressed "publish" for the first time. I had no idea if anyone would ever read it apart from me.
I still have no idea what it is supposed to be!! I don't suppose I ever will, but I do know that I have had in excess of about ten thousand visitors since I started. If you had told me that when it first started I would never have done it.... How scary.
To define this site I would say that it is not actually a blog at all - it's a wide circle of friends all chipping in to a central point and catching up with each other in a unique way.
To commemorate our birthday, I thought I would take you on a walk down memory lane - well - more a brisk gallop really. Here is a selection of posts which sum up what has been happening here: ENJOY!! JULY 2005
Some of you have been asking me - who exactly has password access to fredsgonered now?

Melisma performed a short concert last night as part of a lecture in Jordanstown University. The entire affair lasted around 30 minutes - we should do more gig's like this don't you think??!!
Thanks to Philip and Jenny for organising the event and special thanks to Jenny for again pleasuring us all with her silver and gold flute!!!
I decided today to afford the time to write an actual blog article to you all thanking you for your visits and support over the year.
It's a funny thing but this blog only started in late July. It seems to me to have been around forever and I really don't know if I could ever do without it now. My input has been at times patchy and at times regular as clockwork. Back in the days of Sept / Oct, readers will remember that I ran a daily "quiz" - this attracted around 60 visits A DAY and was great crack but it required a lot of work and eventually I ran out of steam.
The identity of the mysterious and incredibly rude "Byte" generated quite a bit of interest not least of all from me. It turned out to be Richard who was the very last person I thought it could be. If I were to be transported into a Miss Marple mystery, I don't think I would fare very well... It's no wonder I was crap at the murder mystery evening that Fi and Richard organised last year!! In the end I think J'accused the fondue set that night.
Anyway I digress. I don't do Christmas Cards - I can't be bothered and I think one less person chopping up trees must be a good thing. Don't get me wrong though - I love getting them! So ....
Instead of Christmas Cards, A Fred's OBE (Order of the Blog Empire) goes to some special people this Christmas, both online and real live face to face friends, who have been particularly great this year to me and who all make my life fantastic. Apologies if any of this is over sentimental but that's what I do best...If I leave anyone out let me know - it's just cos I'm stupid rather than that I've forgotten them...
FRED AND FRED OBE'S to Alan C who has started a new life in Edinburgh and who is lovin it.. to Andrew my rock....(!) to Shazza Cazza Lazza and Jazza..... to Matthew and Clare my annual relatives to my Dad who I love enormously and with whom I had the nicest day of my life earlier on this year up a small mountain in Majorca to my Mum who has had a terrible year but who is doing great despite everything to Byte(!) to Clair, Leanne, wee Gerard and Anne in Dunmurry and England who are all making millions for an ungrateful man to Clare and Geoff who have both had a tough year and for whom 2006 can only be better to Courtney the conductor who will be an amazing world class name some day to Darran in Cork to David R and his curlie wurly hair - keep the curly wurly curries coming to David and Pamela and little Erin, little Erin has melted my heart and some day she'll probably break it… to Fi and Richard who are coming back to NI and facing the unknown to Gillian our Barts director and my life-longest serving bestest friend, to Eric one of my other dads... to Jenny and Chris our other newlyweds who invited us to their fab wedding dancing where I had a ball!! to Jonny Ireland our Son to Jonny Roberts in his new house that he has worked so hard for to Karin and Charles, to Katherine and Gavin who are about to give birth and who deserve so much happiness next year to Katrina my sister in her new house who deserves everything in the world to Kerri L who was mugged recently but is showing humiliating resolve and strength, to Lawrain and David our hair consultants… to Lisa in NZ and Walker in Canadaour long distance lovers who are seeing each other this Christmas for the first time in ages to Michael R who helped us grind a few bastards down earlier on in the year, to my Dentist Karen who fixed me up good as new when disaster struck in Barcelona, to my wee Lynder who shone like a star on TV last night and who I love deeply, to my wee mate Ed who I can honestly say for such a young person is one of the most mature kind friends I have ever had to Philip our dynamic composer in residence who writes the songs that make the whole world cry, to Richard and Susan our newly wedded bestest friends who both Raise Me Up!! to Rswipe to Tess and Michael, to Tim Jones to Wylfie the pantomime dame (don't even ask)
To Julie a fantastic woman with so much poise and command in work and yet who has the capacity to melt into a great friend, to Isla (a truly intelligent and bohemian spirit) to Susan (our poor bad cop who has to remind us all where the lines are and is a real gem) and last but not least our Sandra who brought me in when I was out in the cold in February and who is one of the most generous people I know and for whom I would do anything!!
Well we had a lovely night last night in Holywood (Northern Ireland, not USA)
Grove Consort and Groove did a concert along with Ulster Brass and a fabulously talented Michael McHale (Concert Pianist) in Holywood Parish Church organised mainly by Andrew Smith.
The World Premiere of a special arrangement of "Rejoice Rejoice" by Philip Stopford (St Anne's Cathedral, Belfast) was performed by Grove Consort and Ulster Brass together and conducted by the composer himself and accompanied by Richard Campbell on Organ.
All the groups sang really well and there was a great appreciative audience and a warm Christmas atmosphere which did my heart glad. Even gladder was my heart when we went for a pint in the Maypole and then had a Chinese in the Watermargin. I went home feeling fat and content.
All in all a perfect night!!!
Also it was great to see all the "team" together again in one room and especially good to see our Alan home from Edinburgh. It was funny to see a load of friends putting on a show and all doing their different things and doing them all so well. Special mention to Jenny and Lynda who as usual both sang like nightingales.
Here, therefore, as a tribute to Jenny and Lynda is a picture of a nightingale. Florence Nightingale
You see this is a lonely business putting things up on a website. You can get really paranoid that no-one is reading it - yet when I check the logs I see you do all visit and read the site regularly. I'd like you to GET INVOLVED a bit!! Your comments cheer me up and make doing this all seem worthwhile. There are people out there who regularly read yet NEVER comment. (Lynda, Jenny, Philip, Jonny I, Shazza, Cazza, Sandybabes, Gillian P and many many more) Remember, It'sYOUR BBC....
I'm an ex Eastender with no tangible career prospects!! Get me into there!!! (fee negotiable)
The 10 names heading into the jungle for the fifth instalment of I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here! have been announced.
Two former EastEnders actors Elaine Lordan, 39, and Sid Owen, 33, will join Kimberley Davies, 32, who played Annalise Hartman in Neighbours, and ex-Emmerdale star Sheree Murphy, 30 in the Australian jungle.
Ex-Atomic Kitten singer Jenny Frost, 27, and the wine expert Jilly Goolden, 48, are also taking the trip Down Under.
Journalist Carol Thatcher, 52, has confessed that she has not even told her mother, former Prime Minister Lady Thatcher, that she's about to star in the ITV reality show.
Ex-Blue singer Antony Costa, 24, entertainer Jimmy Osmond, 42, antiques expert David Dickinson, 64, have also signed up for the ratings-winner.
The celebrities are already said to be at each other's throats over pay deals for appearing on the two-week show, with Frost reported to be receiving £100,000 - four times the payments to some of the other contestants.
Announcement from Andrew to Groove members (Self explanatory)
Dear Mark,
Malcolm Neale would like us to take part in his Christmas concert at Holywood Parish Church on Tuesday 13 December 2005.
The whole programme will involve their Parish choir, Ulster Brass, possibly Michael McHale (Clandeboye Young Musician of the Year 2004; ex-Methody pianist who has performed with Barry Douglas) and a chamber choir.
He would like the chamber choir to do two 15 mins slots, one in each half, plus a tutti carol in each half.
The possibilities are many. My personal feeling is that it would be an ideal for Groove, in the 2nd half, to perform the entire Radio Ulster programme in preparation for the broadcast on Friday 16th.
As to the first half, I would suggest inviting Lynda, Susie and Jenny ("Groove and Friends") to do another 15 mins, possibly recycling stuff we did at St John's Donegore such as "Have yourself a Merry Little Xmas" and maybe even "Santa Claus is coming to town" etc. etc.
I wonder whether Philip might be interested in arranging one or two of his carols for Groove n Friends and Ulster Brass (who consist of two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba)...
Fee £50 a head.
It would be good to secure the services of Richard on the lovely Holywood Parish organ with which he is intimately aquainted...
Come back to me if you have any questions... And direct Philip to me if he has any questions re Ulster Brass...
Sat night was "Champagne Night" and Jenny and Chris (yet again) provided us with a fab night. They treated us to their wedding champagne (much appreciated especially by me) and a fabby barbeque (my fav was the corn on't cob!!!)
Many thanks to Jenny and Chris from all of us - really enjoyed your pics of Rio and hope that my ridiculous consumption of alchohol didn't make me slur too much...
I never posted this link and I should have done it ages ago - here are the photo's I have for Jenny and Chris's wedding.
If anyone else has any pictures they have of this fab day can they forward them to me - I was obviously singing during the day so I got no pictures of the ceremony itself.
So I've read so much about blogging that it's time I found out what the benefits are. So this is me at Castleward with two of my friends, Lynda and Jenny. Castleward is the venue for an Opera season which is held once a year.
